John Paul Kirkeby, 68, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Taylor House in Des Moines.Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 29, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Cremation rites will follow the visitation on Friday. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, with burial following at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
John was born on June 2, 1944, in Beloit, WI, to Oliver and Marjorie (Martin) Kirkeby. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963. He was a Seabee in the US Navy. John married Marcia Ann Hickie on October 21, 1967, and they made their home in Des Moines. John retired in 2008 from Moehl Millwork. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, woodworking, cards, and putting together jigsaw puzzles.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Marcia Kirkeby; son, Paul (Dee Ann) Kirkeby; granddaughter, Raiyn Kirkeby; mother, Marjorie Kirkeby; sister, Mary Clark; brother, Karl (Mary Jane) Kirkeby; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Kirkeby and brother-in-law, Thomas Clark Jr.
