Keith W. Hoberg was born in Bemidji, Minnesota to Harvey E. and Inga (Nelson) Hoberg. He was baptized and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He attended the Bemidji school system and was a Lumberjack football end and a forward on the basketball team that went to state his senior year in 1944. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Medical Corp. Upon his release, he re-enlisted and was in the reserve while attending the University of Minnesota and Bemidji State University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1950.
He married Elaine J. Lindfors, daughter of Ernest T. and Gina (Landsverk) Lindfors on December 17, 1950, in Fosston, Minnesota at the Kingo Lutheran Church. He was recalled by the Navy to report February 1951. Upon his discharge, he taught science and was head football and track coach at Bagley, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a master's degree in 1958.
In June 1958, he began his career with Roerig Division of Pfizer Inc. as a field representative in Fargo, North Dakota. He was promoted to management and relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, in 1963 and to Texas in 1978. He retired in 1989 after 31 years of service.
Keith died March 12, 2012, at East Texas Medical Center hospital in Tyler, Texas. He was cremated. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elaine, Tyler, Texas; their daughter, Kristine (Randi) Smith, Des Moines, Iowa; their son, Eric Hoberg, Tulsa, Oklahoma; their daughter, Natalie Gresham (Art) Jennings, Millbrook, Alabama; six grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Kristin and Jamie Marie Hoberg, Ashleigh Gresham Mensch, John S. Gresham III and Jenna Leigh Gresham; two great-grandchildren, Layton and McKenzleigh Mensch; a brother, Justin Hoberg, Bemidji, Minnesota and Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Virginia Cann, International Falls, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Kjenaas Park, Rapids, Minnesota and Mavis Molloy, Denver, Colorado; a cousin, Jeanette Hoberg Lund, Beaverton, Oregon; and nieces, nephews, friends and classmates.
He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter; Sheila Ann; his brother Dwaine; his son-in-law, John S. Gresham, Jr.; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and two friends since kindergarten, Chan Bailey and Phil Feir.
A family graveside service with military honors will be on held June 23, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa. Reverend Ken Arentson of Westminster Presbyterian Church will preside.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, at the Quality Inn & Suites, 4995 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa. Online condolences may be sent to www.IlesCares.com.
