Edwin W. Burnight, Jr., 64, died of complications of cancer, Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The family will receive friends at Iles Funeral Homes Grandview Park Chapel from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012 followed by an evening prayer service at 5 p.m. A graveside service will be 1 p.m., Monday, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell, Iowa.
Ed was born May 6, 1948 in Bridgeton, NJ to Edwin W. and Catherine (Emmell) Burnight. He graduated from Bridgeton High School and attended college in New Jersey and Kentucky. Ed served in the United States Army for twelve years. He was employed by United Brick and Tile in Adel, IA for nearly 20 years. He was united in marriage to Barb Erickson, the love of his life, on October 22, 1988.
Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking and spending time with his wife and family. Survivors include his wife, Barb; son, Kevin (Anne) Burnight of Des Moines; and two grandchildren; father in law, Elston Erickson of Story City, IA; many family members and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
