Marilyn Rae (Fischer) Fjelstad went home to be with her loving Father on September 28, 2012. Her devoted husband, Garry, and light of her life daughter, Kim, were by her side. Marilyn was born October 11, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ruth and Martin Fischer. She graduated from Saydel High School. She worked for the Department of Human Services where she met the love of her life, Garry. They were married July 13, 1968, and celebrated 44 years together.
Marilyn was a devoted wife and loving mother. She loved her Lord, life, people, sports, animals (Sparky and Sunny), and most of all helping people whenever she could. Even when she was sick, she never missed watching her Hawkeyes play. She loved to laugh, and her laughter was so contagious you couldn’t help but laugh right along with her.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Garry; daughter Kim (Brian) Perry; grandson, Austin Perry; step mother Maxine Fischer; and many special family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth; father Martin Fischer; and in-laws Pauline and Palmer Fjelstad.
There will be a celebration of Marilyn’s life on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., to be held at Bethany Reformed Church, 720 NE 52nd Avenue, in Des Moines.
