Rupnow, James - 1949-2012

James Rupnow, 63, died Monday, October 22, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines from an aortic aneurysm. Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Friday, October 26, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Jim was born March 18, 1949, in Beaver Dam, WI to Harold and Ruth Rupnow. He graduated from Beaver Dam Senior High School, received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin at Stout and his Master's Degree in Education from Drake University. Prior to moving to Des Moines, Jim taught school in Waconia, MN and Racine, WI. He retired from the Des Moines School District in 2007 after a thirty year career, having taught classes ranging from tech ed to photography to the core subjects. Jim considered himself an English teacher and his friends sure knew it. Since his retirement he has enjoyed riding his Harley, spending nights with friends playing Bocce Ball and traveling out west for weekend adventures with his daughter.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Lydia (Charlie Besecker) Rupnow of Park City, UT, his mother, Ruth (Karcher) Rupnow of Beaver Dam, WI, his sisters, Audrey Rupnow of Denver, CO and Judy (Jim) Wick of Erhard, MN; and Lydia's mother, Julie Peachey of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold E. Rupnow.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family, in care of Westover Funeral Home, for a scholarship in Jim's name to be established at Scavo High School. Online condolences may be made at IlesCares.com.
