Laura Sadie Smothers was born May 17, 1916 in Dallas Center, Iowa and passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2012. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m., Friday, at Brooks South Town Chapel with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the chapel.
Laura was a homemaker and a seamstress. She loved to sew and crochet. Her church, Fort Des Moines Church of Christ, was very important to her. Laura's passion was her family.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Kenneth; two sons, Sherman Kenneth and Loren Kendel; her daughter, Doris (Kenneth) Sherer; three grandsons: Mark Thacker, Mike Neese, and Steve Burgess; and several brothers and sisters.
Laura is survived by her daughters: Shirley Smothers, Janet (Calvin) Voshell, Laura Lea (Steve) Scheffler and Rhonda McGriff; daughter-in-law, Janet Smothers; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lena Howell; two sister-in-laws, Mary Fisher and Jeanne Stueland; and several nieces and nephews.
