Frank E. Thorne, 64, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the V.A. Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 6, at Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Friday. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Frank was born on September 22, 1947 in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Frank K. and Kathleen Elaine (Barker) Thorne. He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving during the Vietnam conflict. In December of 1969, Frank married Jessica T. Olmstead and they made their home in Des Moines. For more than 30 years, Frank was owner and operator of Thorne Truck Leasing. Following his retirement, he was employed as a bar manager with V.F.W. Beaverdale Post 9127; and also volunteered countless hours at the V.A. Medical Center. Frank loved going to the Des Moines River.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Jessica T. Thorne of Des Moines; children, Ronda (Scott) Johnson of Lisle, IL, and Angela (Carolyn) Jenison-Thorne, Jessica E. Thorne and Frank K. Thorne all of Des Moines; son of his heart, Brian Brunk; five siblings, Karen Horner, Connie (Joe) Ring, Deb Thorne, Scot Thorne and Vicky Thorne; and four grandchildren, Maxwell and Walter Johnson, Kai Brunk, and Josephine Schuessler. Frank was preceded into eternal life by his parents; and one brother, Kenny Thorne.
