Marie P. (Pies) Sutton, 95, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Bickford Cottage in West Des Moines. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 2, at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd, Clive. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Marie was born March 6, 1917 in rural Madrid, Iowa to Frank and Jessie (Grigsby) Pies. She attended college at Simpson and finished her BA degree at Drake University, where she was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She taught school in McCallsburg, Maxwell, Saydell, Denver (Colorado), Norwalk, and Urbandale. Marie married Merle Sutton, September 25, 1941.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Merle; siblings, Eldon, Harvey, Edward, Florence, Iona, and Henry. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Sadler; grandsons, Jason (Samantha) and Scott Sadler; brother, Kenneth Pies of Madrid; and many nieces and nephews.
