Bernard "Bernie" Midthun, 79, died November 5, 2012 at Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, November 9 at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Bernard was born in Des Moines, August 2, 1933 to Oscar and Bertha Midthun. He retired from Penn Dixie Cement plant after 25 years and Mercy Medical Center after 15 years. He served three years in the U.S. Army, was a member of the West Des Moines American Legion and the Valley Junction chapter of AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carole; daughter, Margaret Oakes (Jim) of Des Moines; son, Don (Pat) of Indianola; granddaughter, Tiffini Shepard and great-granddaughter, Andrea Shepard both of Des Moines; brother, Don Midthun (Jewell) of Des Moines and several nieces and nephews. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Orin Midthun.
