Gordon Craig Thorn, 83, Hamilton, Missouri, passed away on November 6, 2012, at his home. He had formerly lived in Des Moines, Iowa, and the state of California, before moving to Hamilton nine years ago.
Gordon was born on January 16, 1929, in Indianola, Iowa, to Theodore Alden and L. Lorraine Gordon Thorn. Gordon was a 1946 graduate of the Indianola High School. He had served our country from 1951 to 1955 in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Northern Japan. He had previously worked as a Quality Control Engineer for the Rockwell Corporation in Anaheim, California, for twenty years. Gordon then worked as a salesman for Boyer Petroleum in Des Moines, IA.
Gordon was a member of the Hamilton Baptist Church. He had become an ordained minister through the Kingsway Fellowship in Des Moines. He had previously also been a member and past president of the Full Gospel Businessmen Association of Des Moines.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June Honnold Thorn, and a son, Thomas Thorn.
On September 14, 2003, he married Jacqulyn (Jackie) Bateman Baird in Evergreen, Colorado. She survives of the home.
Additional suvivors: daughter, Julie Lynn (Eldon) Condit, Westminister, Co; daughter-in-law, Melinda Thorn (friend, Chad Verholf), Des Moines; granddaughter, Heather Thomas Thorn-Houk (Barry), Kellogg, Iowa; great-grandson, Landynn Thomas Houk; sister, Nancy Darnell, Buena Park, CA; cousin, Hollis Hayworth, Columbia, MO; nephew, Craig Darnell (friend, Joe Goodwin) Long Beach, CA; and numerous friends.
Gordon was an active athlete. He greatly enjoyed long distance and mountain bicycling and had ridden in the Ragbrai Trip across the state of Iowa many times after he had turned 60 years old. He had also participated in Motocross events in California.
Funeral: 10 a.m., Saturday, November 10, at the Hamilton Baptist Church. Visitation: Friday, November 9, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton. Memorials: Three Rivers Hospice of Cameron, MO., or a church or ministry of the donor's choice.
Funeral Services will be held at Peterson Funeral Home, Indianola, Iowa, on Monday morning, November 12 at 11 a.m. with Visitation one hour prior to Services, with interment and military honors to follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Indianola.
