Pravin Patwa, age 76, passed on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines. He was diagnosed with AML in July of 2011, and dealt with his condition with dignity, understanding, and grace.
Pravin had a signature style, liked getting together with his friends, and loved music. He held two Masters Degrees in Organic Chemistry, one from M.S. University in 1958, and another from CCNY in 1976. He had a technical brain and a spiritual mind. Mr. Patwa worked as a chemist for the MTA in New York City, in research and development of chemical formulas. An enterprising mind subsequently led him to entrepreneurship.
He was born in Vadodara, India, and immigrated to the United States in 1968. He spent time in Vadodara, Mumbai, and New York City, and lived out his final years in West Des Moines, IA, and traveled extensively. He raised his children to be independent, and encouraged them to use honesty and compassion as their guide.
Mr. Patwa is preceded in death by his father and mother, Kantilal and Jayalaxmi Patwa; and his sister, Dharmishta Shah. He is survived by his wife, Kalindi Patwa; and two children, Karen and Saurabh Patwa.
An informal viewing will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 10. The funeral service and cremation will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 11, both days will take place at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Hospice of Central Iowa.
