Mamie "Nana Doll" Soda, 95, longtime resident of Des Moines died Friday, November 9, 2012 at her daughter, Donna's, home near Norwalk. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.
Mamie was born on August 8, 1917 to Joseph and Theresa (Berardi) Pirillo. She graduated from East High School and married Dominic Soda in 1937. Her first job was at Rollins Hosiery Mill. Later she and her husband, Dominic, worked together as home builders. She was also a realtor for Andrews Realty. Nana Doll was a very strong, loving, independent and practical woman. She shared a passion for polka and country dancing with her long-time friend, Bernie McVey. She was very creative and sewed most of her own clothes. There was nothing she couldn't fix without the use of duct tape and aspirin. She inspired many and will truly be missed by all.
Those left to cherish Nana Doll's memory include her two daughters, Mary Beltrame (Ed, Jr.) and Donna Hill (Mike); six grandchildren, Renee Sexton (Steve), Julie Weiland (Troy), Andrew Beltrame (Trish), John Hill (Kim), Pat Hill (Wendy) and Clint Hill (Tammy Reynolds); 18 great grandchildren; sister, Clara Formaro and two brothers, Jim Pirillo (Shirley) and John Pirillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic; three sisters; two brothers and long-time friend, Bernie.
