Dallas Allen Dickson, 72, died on November 6, 2012, at the VA Central Iowa Health Care in Des Moines, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery at a later date.
Dallas was born on March 26, 1940, in Des Moines to Clarence and Abby (Riggs) Dickson. He married Marilyn Joan Essex on January 16, 1964, in Des Moines. Dallas was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Navy, Iowa National Guard, Army Reserves, and Army as a career military soldier. He was a member of the American Legion. Dallas coached the Special Olympics for Link Associates for over ten years and the Pioneer Handicapped Little League baseball teams. He was also a Girl Scouts leader. Dallas enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and spending time with his grandkids.
Dallas will be missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Marilyn Dickson of Des Moines; two daughters, Dawn (Patrick Seeley) Dickson of Des Moines and Dalles (Ronald) Leitzman of Madrid; a son, Donald (Jody) Dickson of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Korissa Ann and Christopher Seeley of Des Moines, Michaela and Ryne Leitzman of Madrid; two adopted grandchildren, Tanner Seeley of Des Moines and Teresa Starbuck of Boone; a sister, Joanne (Dean) Senecal of Eagle Bay, NY; a cousin, Roxanne (Bill) Franklin of Des Moines; four nieces; two nephews; and many other cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abby and Clarence Dickson; sisters, Faith Hicklin and Karen Newton; brother, Merle Hicklin; brother-in-law, Harry Hicklin; and aunt, Dorence Lackey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Home Care-Des Moines, CIHCS-VA Palliative Care Hospice, Iowa Special Olympics, or to the family. Online condolences may be sent to IlesCares.com.
