Mary Della Young, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Parkridge Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 15 at Merle Hay Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.
Mary, the daughter of Cecil and Sarah (Hickle) Oleson, was born February 16, 1930. She was a 1949 graduate of Lincoln High School in Des Moines. Mary retired from Maurice's Distribution Center. She was a charter member of the Polka Club of Iowa, and taught dance lessons for many years. She enjoyed walking, gardening, and playing games.
Mary is survived by her four children, James E.(Marjorie) Young of Cedar Rapids, Karen K. Schultz of Ames, William R. (Deborah) Young of Ames, and Peggy L. (Bradley) Mabuce of West Des Moines; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Lois Oertwig of Ankeny and brother, George (Lois) Oleson of Texas.
