His family life was the embodiment of his faith. He and wife, Marjorie, who died August 28, at 90, passed on their values of hard work and living within their means to their five children. He worked 33 years with the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk and was a branch manager for his last assignment with them. In WWII, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was at Omaha Beach in Normandy. He grew up in Harrold, SD, with three sisters and a brother, during the dust bowl. He was able to get work during the depression with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) building infrastructure in national parks.
Married 66 years, Syl and Marge are survived by their children: James of Des Moines, Mary Beth (husband Bill Stark) Stauble of Ithaca, NY, David (wife Deb) of Wichita, KS, Trish (husband Harry Moore) Stauble of Ames and Richard (wife Linda) of Burnsville, MN.
Syl is also survived by a sister, Genevieve Marso of Harrold, SD, and sister, Dolores Krein, of Erie, PA, 10 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren (including namesake Sylvester Stauble of Wichita, KS). Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Calvin Community.
