Kathryn Ellsworth, formerly of Des Moines, died September 16, 2010 in Sun City, AZ. She was 85.
Kathryn retired in 1980 from the Iowa Dept. of Agriculture, but her greatest wish was to return to Des Moines, stating emphatically, “I want to go home.”
She was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Acanthus Eastern Star, and Des Moines Shrine No. 43 White Shrine of Jerusalem, where she was installed as Worthy High Priestess in April 1967. Kathryn also served as board member for Acanthus Order of Rainbow for Girls, was adult leader for Job’s Daughters, and the North High Booster Club. In Sun City, she was a member of the Sheriff’s Posse from 1984 to 2000.
Kathryn is survived by her husband of 62 years, William “Bill” Ellsworth; daughters, Karen Mahon of Glendale, AZ and Janet “Jan” Ellsworth of Des Miones; son, William (Sharon) Ellsworth of Peoria, AZ; and grandchildren, Kristin Mattorano and Thomas Ellsworth.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. A private family burial will be held at the Masonic Cemetery at a later date.
