Sarah L. "Sally" West, age 86, of Runnells, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City, with burial following at Lowman Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Sarah West Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Samuel and Ruth Marie (Davis) Grimes, Sarah was born on March 9, 1925, in Percy, Iowa. Sarah graduated from Swan High School. On March 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to James K. West. Sarah was a homemaker and enjoyed playing music, crafts, and loved camping with family and friends.
Those left to honor her memory are her husband, James of Runnells; her children, Sharon Yazel of Mitchellville, Sandra Curry of Runnells, Marcia Lane of Runnells, and Bonnie (Dale) Jones of Des Moines; eleven grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as a brother, Alvie Grimes of Des Moines. Preceding Sally in death were her parents; a son, Jimmie Dean West; five sisters and two brothers.
