William John Wilson
William John Wilson was born at Ft Arbuckle, Okta.. February 15, 1888 and died at the Holy Cross hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah, March 8, 1922, aged 34 years and 21 days. Mrs. Wilson brought the body back to her home, Monday of last week. The funeral was held the following day from the Christian Church. Rev. Henry of Sutherland officiating, assisted by the Oddfellow organization from Havelock. Mr. Wilson being a member of the order at Milford, Utah. Interment was made in the Laurens cemetery.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. J. A. McKelvy, Independence. Kansas, Mr. Wilson’s mother, and Mrs. Harriet Bartlett and son Harry of Evanston, Illinois, relatives of the Hawley family,
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson visited here during the recent illness and death of Mrs.. Wilson's mother, Mrs. Mary Hawley. At that time Mr. Wilson was recovering from a severe accident he received at the railroad shop, but otherwise he seemed to be in the best of health. On February 27th he went to the hospital at Salt City with a very mild attack of appendicitis, undergoing an operation which resulted in other pn3eumonia, his death occurring five days later.
Memorial services were held in the M.E. church at Milford, Utah, under the surprise of his brother Old fellows. He leaves a mother three brothers, a wife and many friends to mourn his untimely death.
Mr. Wilson was pre-eminently a seif made man, never having had the advantage of a common school education. He was farther handicapped by losing his right hand when a mere boy while operating a brick press. Nevertheless he put himself through business college and became an accountant. But his health required an outdoor life and he homestead-ed a claim at Beryl Utah in 1916. Here he became acquainted with Miss Vena Hawley who had a neighboring claim and they were married November 1 1917 at Milford, Utah. After ?? Milford where Mr. Wilson became one of the foreman of the Pacific round house. Here he resided at the time of his death. Mr. Wilson was a loyal Union man and a member of the International Association of Machinists No 1354. He was also a member of L.O.O.F. No 42 and victory Rebekah Lodge No 48 at Milford, Utah
Mr. Wilson with his remarkable combination of experience was a man of mature thought, tolerant judgment, and ?. He was a king and thoughtful son and a loyal devoted husband. “Willie John” as he was affectionately called by his friends and an individually all his own and was most appreciated by those who knew him best. He was a ?among men, a gentlemen among women, a pal to his shop-mates and a playmate to little children. Farewell, Willie John until we meet again.
