F. K. Hawley, Pioneer In County, Died Sat

Funeral Tues. At Local Church Crowd Attends to Pay Their Last Respects; Many Flowers

Fred K. Hawley, pioneer resident of Pocahontas county, died at 2 p. m., Saturday, July 28, 1945 at his home in Laurens, after a lingering heart illness. He had returned only a few weeks ago from Rochester, Minn., where he had received medical attention.

Services

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Laurens, Tuesday afternoon at 2: 30 p. m. with the Rev. H. O. Ward, pastor of the church in charge. The church was filled to capacity.

Music was directed by Mrs. Lyle George. A quartette composed of Mrs. Darryl Sloan, Lucille Buchanan, E. E. Dubbert, and Clarence Morgan sang "Rock of Ages" and "Crossing the Bar," accompanied by James Dubbert.

Beautiful floral arrangements banked the altar and were placed throughout the church. They were taken care of Mrs. Homer Kyle, Mrs. E. B. Pannkuk, Mrs. Paul Moor, Mrs. Louise Coffman, and Mrs. Chet King.

Nephews

Burial was in the Laurens cemetery with McKee Funeral home making arrangements. Casket bearers were nephews of Mr. Hawley, each one from a different family; they were: Joe Roewe, Dr. L. J. Taylor, Orville Hawley, George Hawley, Douglas Tuttle, and Resor Cowan of Spencer.

Survivors

Fred Hawley was the son of George and Mary Hawley, and the third in a family of 10 children. He leaves to mourn: his wife, Henrietta B. Hawley; one son, Charles F. Hawley of Laurens, and one daughter, Mrs. Martha Huddleston of New York, three grandchildren: Leland J. Hawley, Gretchen Hawley, Jane Hawley; brothers and sisters: Charles A. Hawley, Mrs. Vena Wilson, Mrs. Essie Tuttle, Albert W. Hawley, Mrs. Fred W. Roewe, Miss Sophronia Hawley. Seymour G. Hawley, many other relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances throughout the state and nation.

Out-of-Town

Friends and relatives outside this vicinity and Pocahontas county who attended the funeral were Harold J. Allen, John Beller, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Gross. Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Gross, H. H.
