Eleanor M. Polich, 96, died peacefully Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Eleanor was born August 30, 1916, on a farm near Pocahontas, IA, to Frank and Rose (Hotovec) Stejskal. She married John J. Polich on October 11, 1947, and of this union three children were born: David, Margaret and Edward. The family resided in Des Moines until 1965, when they moved to Urbandale. In September 2012, Eleanor moved to the Bishop Drumm Home in Johnston.

A faithful, devoted and active Catholic, Eleanor was a member of St. John's Parish in Des Moines and then St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale. She lived a life of service and enjoyed taking care of others. Her church activities included membership in Legion of Mary and Altar and Rosary Society, working as a special education religion catechist, visiting the sick, preparing countless funeral dinners, and attending daily mass.

Survivors include her children, Father David Polich of Perry, Margaret (Jack) Cavanagh of Des Moines, and Ed (Katy) Polich of Des Moines; grandchildren, Kristin (Jason) Vogel of Clive, Thomas Cavanagh of Des Moines, Alisha (Marshall) Henry of Johnston, and Gabriel Polich of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Kate and Andrew Vogel; sisters, Ann (Ray) Harrold, Judy Flaherty, and Marie Pattee, all of Pocahontas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and brothers, Joe and Frank Stejskal.

Eleanor's family wishes to thank the staff at Bishop Drumm for their wonderful and compassionate care.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Westover Funeral Home, where a Rosary will begin at 4 p.m. and a Vigil Service will begin at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Bishop Drumm Care Center or Catholic Worker House. ~ The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa 28 Feb 2013.
