Last rites for Andrew Meredith, 85, were held Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1958 in the Methodist church with the Rev. Wm. Bohi officiating. Pallbearers were Joe Wade, Vern Waters, Jerry DeYoung, John Kretzmeier, Louis Hauswirth and Carl Storr. Burial was in Summit Hill Cemetery at Pocahontas.
Mr. Meredith, youngest son of Richard and Jane Meredith, was born July 21, 1873, at Lengin, England. He was united in marriage with Catherine Hudson on Feb. 18, 1890 in the Church of England at Morriston, South Wales. They came to the United States in the spring of 1902 with their two children, Emma, now Mrs. Stuart Pirie of Mason City, and Richard of Havelock. They established a home near Evansville. Wis., where their son, Leonard, was born. In 1904 they came to Pocahontas County where their daughter, Helen, was born. The Meredith's farmed near Pocahontas and in the Ware community for nearly 40 years before retiring in 1945. He spent 12 years at Pocahontas and the last two years at Havelock.
Mr. Meredith had been in failing health for the past two years, but only bedfast for the last three weeks in the Nursing Home at Laurens, where he died Nov. 30.
Survivors include two sons, Richard and Leonard of Havelock; two daughters, Mrs. Stuart Pirie of Mason City and Helen of this place; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
His wife died in August, 1954, and he was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
