SHOTGUN KILLS AKRON FARMER
W. C. Vreugdenhil Is Fatally Injured Near Home Wednesday
Wn, C, Vreugdenhil, 48, well known and respected farmer living about six miles northwest of town, in Sioux Valley township, S. D., died Wednesday morning from a gunshot wound in his left side, just below the heart. He had gone out into a field on his farm and was near a fence when the gun was discharged. There was no witness to the tragedy, but the theory is advanced that he may have slipped on the icy ground is trying to get through the fence and that the weapon was accidentally discharged. Pending an inquest by the county coroner, officials who were called to the scene termed it an accident.
Mr. Vreugdenhil is survived by his wife, and three sons and two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Clark, Max, Robert, Dennis and Mary Kay to whom the community extends sincerest sympathy in their sad and sudden bereavement. Funeral arrangements have not been announced at this time.

Had Been Resident Of Union County For Nearly Thirty Years
Wm. C. Vreugdenhil, eldest son of Jacob and Mary Jones Vreugdenhil was born February 9, 1900, at Hornick, Iowa, and passed away Wednesday, February 3, 1943, six days before his for-third birthday, at his home northwest of Akron, in Union county, South Dakota.
Mr. Vreugdenhil moved with his parents from Hornick to Sioux Valley township, Union county, at the age of fourteen. He was united in marriage with Miss Anna Langdon at the First Christian church parsonage in Sioux Falls, S. D., March 3, 1920. Four sons and three daughters came to bless their union. Two children preceded their father in death—a son, Gene, aged 14 months on June 24, 1934, and a daughter, Hope, at the age of nearly five months on April 3, 1935.
Mr. Vreugdenhil was baptized by Rev. Doreen at the Christian church in Akron, May 25, 1918, and on March 2, 1930, he and his wife joined the Big Springs Baptist church by letter.
The first two years after their marriage they spent farming the Ralph Johnson farm in Big Springs township. Then they moved to the Henry Malmgren farm in Sioux Valley township, where they had lived nearly twenty-one years.
His mother died on February 26, 1919, leaving nine children under the age of 19. He helped his father make a home for them and after his marriage he and his wife took the youngest, Ruth, aged one and one-half years old, to raise as their own. She is now MRS. Roy Anderson, living near Spink, S. D. His father died August 26, 1937.
Besides his wife and children, Mrs. Joyce Clark, Max, Robert, Dennis and Mariann, there are also left to mourn Mr. Vreugdenhil’s departure five sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Peter Bol, Inwood, Iowa; Mrs. Warren Hill, Plainview, Nebraska; Mrs. Kenneth Moates, Pueblo, Colorado; Mrs. Elis Odom, Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. Roy Anderson, Elk Point, S.D.; Edward Vreugdenhil, Akron, Iowa, and Neal Vreugdenhil, Omaha.
Mr. Vreugdenhil was a kind and loving husband and father and his sudden death is a deep sorrow to his family.
Funeral services were held at the home and also at the Big Springs Baptist church Sunday, February 7, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Clayton Bolinder. Acting as pallbearers were Lester Seely, John Frisk, John Jonstra, Edw. Olson, Albert Anderson and Leonard Johnson. He was laid to rest beside his two children and his parents in Riverside cemetery, Akron. Peace to his memory.

D.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Vreugdenhil; Alton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Vreugdenhil, Sioux Center, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Vreugdenhil and daughter, Dixie, of LeMars, Iowa; Mrs. Peter Bol and son Freddy, and daughter, Mrs. Burns Severson, of Inwood, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Hessel Rhorada, Mrs. Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Oldenkamp, Jake and George Canegaietor, of Rock Valley, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Booth, of Alcester, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith, of Burbank, S. D.
