Charles Gillespie was born in Ireland, March twelfth 1839. Died at his home southeast of this city Thursday, August 13, 1908, at 1:45 a.m. When a small boy he came to this county with the balance of the family and located in Carroll county, Illinois. In 1870 he came to Page county and located upon the home place where he died. He was married the last of March, 1863 to Miss Margaret Palmer, in Illinois. Eight children were born to them, seven of whom are still living. The deceased has been quite poorly since last spring when he had an attack of lung and heart trouble. For the past few weeks he has not been abke to sleep in bed and therefore been compelled to sit up in an easy chair most all of the time. All through his illness he has been free from pain and able to converse freely with all friends. Even up to the last moments his voice was clear and distinct. While the death came sudden the family were well aware that it would come as it did. Among his fellow men the deceased stood very high. While he was never an active pusher for any one thing he was always ready to help in all good causes. He was quiet in his general way and had all the qualities of a perfect gentleman. The funeral will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the home and the interment in the Essex cemetery. The family have the deepest sympathy of all acquaintances in their hour of bereavement.
