My great great grandfather was William Harvey McGill b. 1845 and served in the Civil War. His family according to the 1850's IA census has his mother, Eliza (b @ 1810) staying with neighbor William Day. Her husband was Robert,(disappeared between 1847 and 1850, can't find a tombstone. I'ld like to know what happened to him, did they loose their home, is William Day a relative? family friend?). Their children are:
Francis M b. 1838, Benjamin F b. 1840 (killed in the Civil War Iowa 7th Inf), Mary J b. 1842, Hiram b 1844 ( he's missing by 1860), William Harvey b. 1845 and Isaac b 1848. In the 1860's census, only William and Isaac are listed. I have learned that Francis married Martha McDaniel, but that's all I've found. Isaac married Madama Kuder in Iowa. William Harvey McGill married Susan Louisa Thompson, they had one child Jennie before Susan died in 1878 and he then married Margaret Charles and had four children of which Chester A., William Harrison (my great grandfather, he married Garnet Pritchard) Mary and Bessie. Francis and Isaac had children, I would like to know if any of their relatives are still in Iowa. If anyone is researching this family, I would love to share stories and be updated on any relations and info. My family lives in Central New York. I am a local historian, freelance writer and museum curator.
