Hi Jeanette,
Perry and Emily did not marry in Muscatine County.
There is no doubt about it – differences in spelling of names really made it hard to figure this family out.
Musser Public Library, in Muscatine, offers visitors to view NewspaperArchives.com through remote access. Just go to the library's web site and select Local History and Genealogy.
I found Emily’s obit, transcribed it and placed it on the Muscatine Co. IAGenWeb Obituary Board. See http://iagenweb.org/boards/muscatine/obituaries/index.cgi?read=802523
According to Emily Laurence's obit she married Percy Gage in 1867, in Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa and he died 4 years later.
Searching censuses by using Ancestry.com I was having little luck in finding a Perry Gage.
However, using the spelling of Percy Gage, found him living in in Marshalltown in the 1860 Federal Census, with his first wife, Catherine and they have a 4 year old son, Edward!
I made a copy for you and will send it to you in another email, off list.
NewspapersArchives does not have newspapers from 1872 on line. One would have to go to Musser Public Library to access papers from that time period.
It is always nice to find pieces of the puzzle!
Lynn
