So, are you saying that the Eliphalet Winn that your grandfather visited was from NY or are you saying he is the Eliphalet that was at the blind school. Everyone that I have come in contact with about the Winn's seem to be able to trace their lines back..either to the Winn's south of Albany NY...or to the Maine line of Winns...My line started in Renssalaer County..John Winn enlisted at Hartford CT..so I am assuming that he was from CT...I did find a John and Peter Winn in NYC around the time of the Revolution..but not sure if they are mine...John Winn was part of Sheldon's 2nd Dragoons and spent a lot of his time near White Plains NY...where Washington had his headquarters. John died at the home of Renssalaer Schuyler...the son og General Schuyler and is buried on the property somewhere in Easton NY. I went to Saratoga and spoke to the Park people..and they were unaware that there was even a house of significance in Easton... they offered to help me find him...but I have nothing to new to help them other than the info I gave them.
