FROM ALL OVER IOWA
HYNES
One of the saddest accidents that ever occurred in Monroe County happened in No. 6 mine of the Smokey Hollow Coal Company at 9:45 a.m. on June 30. Steve Vito, a Slavish miner, while at work in his room, was instantly crushed to death by a huge piece of slate falling from the roof. The young man’s sweetheart arrived from her native land Saturday, June 25, and the following Monday the young people were married, little dreaming that their happiness was soon to come to an end.
