Gary Alan Kalskett, 72, of Soldier, Iowa, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, January 24, 2025.

A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Iowa, with Pastor Chip Borgstadt and Vicar Russell Stanislav, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Gary’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 31, with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at the Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Gary was born August 2, 1952, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of James and Elsie (Moltsau) Kalskett. He graduated from East Monona with the class of 1971.

Gary and Diane Marik were united in marriage on July 30, 1977, in Soldier, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Wade and Mary. Diane passed away April 7, 2024 in Onawa.

Gary worked for the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department, State of Iowa in the road maintenance department, and for Monona County secondary roads for many years.

He enjoyed gardening, going to garage sales, taking extremely long road trips on vacations, sitting in the garage shooting the breeze with friends, and spending time with his family. His special achievement included celebrating thirty-four years of sobriety on October 25, 2024.

Gary was an active member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Iowa, where he served as an usher for many years.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary (Josh) Mauch of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, twins, Sendeska and Megaeska Kalskett, Autumn Mauch, and twins, Jordyn and Dan Mauch; twin sister, Terri (Gary) Savery of Onawa, Iowa, sisters, Jeanne (Doug) Nelsen of Soldier, Iowa, Susan (Bill) Kirlin of Modale, Iowa, and Rita (Gary) Utman of Modale, Iowa; brother, Craig (Peg) Kalskett of Leland, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Tom (Clara) Marik of Lake City, Minnesota, and Raymond Marik of Red Wing, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Darlene (Tom) Tingerthal of Chillicothe, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane (Marik) Kalskett; his son, Wade Kalskett; parents, Jim and Elsie (Moltsau) Kalskett; parents-in-law, Edward and Ruby (Thoreson) Marik; and infant twin siblings, Lisa and Larry Kalskett.
