12 February 2025Kenneth Evan Murdock, 94, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.
A memorial service will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Coen, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy and the David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Kenneth’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery Columbaria Court. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Kenneth was born on November 10, 1930, in rural Little Sioux, Iowa, the son of Albert and Myra (Knott) Murdock. He grew up on the family farm. Kenneth proudly served in the United States Navy from January 5, 1951, and was honorably discharged November 3, 1954. He worked in Philadelphia in the shipyards as a machinist.
Kenneth and Catherine “Kathy” (Gatto) McClean were united in marriage in June of 1953 and later divorced. Kenneth and Ruby (Johanns) Jewel were united in marriage on November 10, 1997. Ruby passed away on July 30, 2015.
Kenneth worked various jobs in Onawa, including Honneggers and International Harvester as a mechanic. He worked in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he was an Engineer on a dredge boat.
Kenneth made billfolds and gun holsters out of leather. He was a very skilled carpenter and did many remodeling jobs. He enjoyed hunting.
He was associated with the Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, Iowa. Kenneth was a past commander of the American Legion and a past member of the VFW.
Survivors include his children, William (Jo) Murdock of Sloan, Iowa, Barb Ernst of Grand Island, Nebraska, Lory (Rory Barnett) Reiners of Whiting, Iowa, Lisa Murdock of Sloan, Iowa, Kenneth (Barb) E. Murdock Jr. of Maple Valley, Washington, Kenna Murdock of Missouri, and Tracy Murdock of Missouri; grandchildren, Bob (Lisa) Murdock , Britt (Greg) Ryan, Josh (Chansee) Carritt, Angie (Kevin) Strong, Clint (Megan) Ernst, Tony Murdock, Lexi Murdock, Nathan (Sammi) Reiners, and Nick (Megan) Jepson; several great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his spouses; parents, Albert and Myra (Knott) Murdock; and four brothers, Chester Murdock, Harold Murdock, Bernard Murdock, and Noal Murdock.
