Colleen “Kitty” Burton, was born on April 20, 1943, in Granville, IA. She was the fourth child out of seven children born to Raymond and Agnes (Schwebach) Grady.

Kitty grew up on the family farm north of Granville where she took pride in raising her capons. She graduated from Spaulding Catholic High School in Granville with the class of 1961.

After high school, Kitty began working as a bookkeeper in Hospers, IA, before taking a job for Sioux Transportation in Sioux City, IA. While at a dance at Shore Acres in Sioux City, Kitty met the love of her life, Murral Burton, to say he swept her off her feet is an understatement. The couple were united in marriage on April 29, 1967, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Granville and were blessed that day to be married by Kitty’s uncle, Father Sylvester Grady.

The couple first settled down in an apartment in Leeds, IA, until Murral was called to duty. They relocated to Colorado Springs, CO and while stationed there the couple were blessed with sons, Dean and Dale. Due to health issues with their son Dale, the family relocated to Rochester, MN, before moving to their forever home in Danbury, IA, where the family welcomed two more sons, Daniel and David.

After the boys were in school, Kitty went to work outside of the home at the local grocery store in Mapleton, IA, where she continued to work for many years until retirement. Kitty loved gardening, baking, flowers, and was an avid Iowa Basketball fan. She treasured being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family fondly remembers her for her sunny disposition, her wonderful outlook on life, and her signature birthday cards.

Kitty was a faithful member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Danbury where volunteered her time on many committees.

So today take a moment for Kitty, stop and see the beauty in everything around you as she would have wanted you too.
