Phyllis Lorene Claus, 96, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, at Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa, Iowa.

A memorial graveside service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at the Onawa Cemetery, with Pastor David Godwin, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Phyllis’ obituary. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Phyllis Lorene was born August 8, 1927, the daughter of Jacob and Ella (Kruizenga) Borgman in Orange City, Iowa.

Phyllis and Orval Clifford Claus were united in marriage on June 20, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Barbara and Barry.

She worked as an office manager and nursing assistant for Dr. Gingles in Onawa, Iowa, for many years.

Phyllis enjoyed traveling, reading, and needlework. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Phyllis was a member of the Onawa Methodist Church, Onawa, Iowa.

She was the last of her generation of Borgman and Claus families. Phyllis had a long and happy life and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Kevin) Ketelsen of Waukee, Iowa; son, Barry (Suzanne) Claus of Salix, Iowa; five grandchildren, Becky (Jim) Popp of Waukee, Iowa, Ken (Natalie) Ketelsen of Des Moines, Iowa, Renae (Jeff) Lindsey of Waukee, Iowa, Mitch (Alisha) Claus of Sioux City, Iowa, and Beth (Kyle) Blankenburg of Sioux City, Iowa; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Claus; parents, Jacob and Ella (Kruizenga) Borgman; siblings, Evelyn (Adolph) Luchtenburg, Elmer (Geraldine) Borgman, Alfred (Vincie) Borgman, Harriet (Wilbur) Meerdink, and Esther Mae Hennamen Hartig.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local food bank of your choice.
