LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
“ I Nathaniel C. Deering, of the Town of Osage, County of Mitchell, and State of Iowa, being of sound mind and memory, and of the age of fifty four years, do make and publish, and declare this my last will and testament, in the manner following, that is to say:
1st. I give and bequeath unto my dear wife, Lucretia W. Deering, all my property both personal and real that I may own or have at the time of my death and after the payment of all just debts-desiring and intending that she shall have immediate and absolute ownership and control over the same while she may live, whether married or single; but I recommend to her affectionate consideration my dear sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary E. Bennett, and her issue in case they shall survive me to give to them generously as she may feel to do in view of my love for and interest in them. It is however, my express will and intention that my power and authority to dispose of any or all of said property by will or otherwise. But if she shall fail to dispose of said property in any manner before her death, I desire that one half of said property shall go equally to my said sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary M. Bennett and her issue and the other one half to my own lawful heirs.
In testimony whereof I have set m y hand hereunto this 11th day of November, 1881. Nathaniel C. Deering.”
