Youthful Bombardier
Receives Air Medal

Carpenter, Iowa - Lt. Paul E. Kittleson, 22, bombardier on a B-17 Flying Fortress operating from a Base in Italy, has been awarded the air medal by order of Gen Nathan F. Twining, commanding general of the 15th AAF, for "meritorious achievement in aerial flight."

Lt. Kittleson is a son of Elon Kittleson of St. Ansgar, and a brother, Glenn Kittleson, is in the tank destroyer corps of the army.

Lt. Kittleson, who attended Graceland College, entered the armed forces in February, 1942, and was commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the AAF in April, 1944.

He was assigned to overseas service with the 15th AAF in the Mediterranean theater of operations and is a veteran of 14 combat missions against the enemy.

COUNTY LEAVE FOR PRE-INDUCTION EXAMS

Hold Services for
Mrs. Kittleson in
Carpenter Church

CARPENTER — Funeral services for Mrs. Elon Kittleson, 44, were held Saturday in the First Lutheran church, the Rev. Olaf Langehough officiating.

She is survived by her husband and four stepsons, also five sons and two daughters. Burial was made at Woden.

Elon Kittleson of Woden made the Topic office a pleasant visit Saturday. Mr. Kittleson lives east of Woden in the vicinity where many former Titonkaites reside. He renewed his allegiance to the Topic for another year in advance.

Yarrow-Nelson Vows
Exchanged in Texas

ROCKWELL — Miss Madeline Yarrow of Rockwell, and P. F. C. Leon K. Nelson of Randolph Field, Texas, were married at the Grace Lutheran church in San Antonio, July 4, 1942, by the Rev. John Scherger. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Miller.

Mrs. Nelson is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Yarrow of Rockwell, and the bridegroom a stepson of Elon Kittleson of St. Ansgar. The bride was graduated from Rockwell high school and the Bridegroom is a graduate of St Ansgar high school. They will make their home in San Antonio, Texas.

S/Sgt. Leon K. Nelson was recently transferred to Del Rio, Texas. He had previously been at Fredericka, Oklahoma, and had also taken training at Chanute field, Illinois. He enlisted from Mitchell county in the army air corps on February 3, 1941. He is a son of the late Mrs. Elon Kittleson of St. Ansgar.

From caption on the photo of Leon: Leon K. Kittleson is a step-son of Elon Kittleson of St. Ansgar. He was married to Madeline Yarrow of Rockwell in 1942.

Leon is from Elon's first marriage. His mother died in 1928.

MELTONVILLE - Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Buringrud are announcing the marriage of their daughter, Elaine and Russell Nelson, stepson of Elon Kittleson, Carpenter, which occurred the afternoon of May 18, 1946. Rev. O.A. Langehough read the vows at which the couple was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Nelson, Oakland. Also included in the bridal party were Mr. and Mrs. Wendel Buringrud, St. Ansgar, and the bride's parents and sisters, Sharon and Marilyn. The couple is making its home in St. Ansgar. The groom was discharged from the navy three months ago after serving 24 months overseas. The bride had been employed by Brown & Bigelow in St. Paul, Minnesota.
