Lars Trulsen Ask was born October 29, 1818 on the Heggen farm, Norderhov, Ringerike, Norway to Truls Larsen and Maret Helgerud.

Lars married Toline (Tolline) Olsdatter (Formo) on November 28, 1845 at the Heggen church, Buskerud, Norway.
The couple had seven children:
1. Maren Torine Trulsen Ask (born December 5, 1846 Norway, married Ole the Younger Rustand Haugerud, died Saskatchewan, Canada);
2. Ole Larsen Ask (born February 9, 1849 Norway, married Olava Monsdatter, died March 5, 1930 St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa);
3. Annie Christine (born October 4, 1851 Wisconsin, married Gilbert Gilbertson, died January 8, 1924 St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa);
4. Andrew Larsen Ask (born March 1854 Highland Prairie, Fillmore, MN, married Otilda (no last name found), died July 2, 1927 Marion, Oregon);
5. Karine Larsdatter Ask (born July 28, 1856 MN, married Olavus Krogstad, died June 14, 1938 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);
6. Anton (Antone) Larsen Ask (born June 20, 1860 Highland Prairie, Fillmore, MN, married Bertha Marie Dammen, divorced, died April 19, 1953 Austin, Mower, MN) and
7. Lise (Lizzie) Larsdatter Ask (born August 1862 Highland, Prairie, Fillmore, MN, married Rasmus Mikkelsen Wignes).

Lars, Tolline, Maren and Ole emigrated in 1851 to Rock Prairie, Wisconsin and used the surname Trulsen (also found as Trulisen, Throulsen).
Family found in the 1865 census at Highland Prairie, Fillmore, MN: Lars Trulsen, Tolline Trulsen, children: Marie, Ole, Andreas, Anton, Ann, Karen, Lise.

Next they moved to Minnesota and finally moved to Mitchell Co, Iowa. Lars was a farmer.

Believe Lars Trulsen Ask died March 27, 1903 at St. Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa (although some accounts say 1902) and was buried at the Evergreen (also known as the First Lutheran) Cemetery at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.

Lars' biography written by Sylvia Duenow and published in the MITCHELL, IOWA HISTORY book 1989:

"Lars learned the blacksmith trade in Drammen, Norway and served a three-year apprenticeship there. Later he bought part of a farm at Ask, Norway. Lars was married to Tolline Oldsdatter from Formo Farm, at the Heggen Church.
Tolline was born July 14, 1821, and was a professional seamstress.

In 1851, they sold the farm and with their two children, Maren and Ole, immigrated to America. They settled at Rock Prairie, Wisconsin. With oxen and covered wagon, they moved to Lookingglass Prairie, Minnesota in the spring of 1853. From there, they moved to Highland, Fillmore County, Minnesota and eventually bought a farm near Mitchell, Mitchell, Iowa in October 1868.

When the couple and their seven children arrived at Mitchell County, they found the ground covered with snow and ice. Between Christmas and New Year's, it thawed, so they plowed some of the land. (An article from the 1936 Globe Gazette says there was no bridge or railroad at Mitchell at this time so Lars hauled all his lumber from Austin, Minnesota by wagon.)

This farm was later purchased by a grandson, Lawrence Ask. In 1936, it says Duane Ask owns this farm, the 4th generation to do so.

Lars and Tolline were the parents of seven children: Ole, Mitchell, Iowa; Andreas, Salem, Oregon; Maren (Mrs. Ole D. Haugerud, Bagley, Saskatchewan); Lisa (Mrs. Rasmus Vigness), Grafton, North Dakota; Annie, (Mrs. G. G. Gilbertson), St. Ansgar, Iowa; Karen, (Mrs. Olavus O. Krogstad), Osage, Iowa; and Anton, St. Ansgar, Iowa."

Obituary from the St Ansgar Enterprise Newspaper: Again, we are called upon to record the death of another of our respected citizens. This time it is Lars L. Ask, who was stricken with grip some time ago and on account of his advanced age, could not withstand it's ravages. His spirit took its departure, Friday, March 27, 1903, at the ripe old age of 84 years, 2 months and 28 days.

Lars L. Ask was born at Heggen, Ringerike, Norway on October 29, 1818. Among the rugged hills of his native country, he grew to maturity. At the Heggen church, he was married to Toline Olsdatter Formo. In April 1851, they arrived at Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, which they made their home for two years. Then they journeyed on westward and took up their home in the then sparsely inhabited region of Highland Prairie, Minnesota. After a sojourn of seven years there, they returned to Norway to spend a year, then returned to Highland Prairie, MN where they remained until 1869 (discrepancy: other accounts say 1868 but it was at the end of 1868), when they came to Mitchell county and settled on the farm where they resided until the time of his death.

A loving wife, three sons and four daughters are left to mourn his loss. Of the children, the daughters are Mary, the eldest, wife of Ole Hangerud (Haugerud), of Nox Mills, Wisconsin, Lizzie, wife of Rasmus Vigness, of Grafton, N.D., Anna, wife of Gilbert Gilbertson, of this place, and Carrie, wife of Olaus Krogstad. The sons are Andrew of Salem, Oregon and Ole and Anton, who live south of here.

The funeral was held last Sunday. Rev. M.E. Waldeland went down to the home and held services at 10:30 as Mrs. Ask is sick with pneumonia and services were held again in the First Lutheran church at 1:00 at St Ansgar, IA. The remains were laid to rest in the Norwegian Lutheran (First Lutheran or Evergreen) cemetery at this place (St. Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa)
