The death of Jesse Evans, which occurred at the home of his father, Capt. Evans, in Jefferson township Wednesday morning, November 6, 1889, will be sad news to every reader of these lines. The malady which brought on his untimely end was quinsy and lung trouble, contracted but a few days before and from which he suffered intensely until his death. Jesse was a young man just in the prime of a noble and useful life, and was eminently respected by his large circle of friends and acquaintances. He had ever been an industrious and straight-forward boy of sterling qualities, congenial and earnest in everything. He was born and grew to manhood in Mahaska county and was identified with every good movement that ever came up in his surroundings. Beloved and admired by all his noble young life shall long be treasured in memory and looked back upon with reverence by those who were honored by his acquaintance.
