James B. Osweiler, 84, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, July 5, at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa. His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Robert Busher officiating. Burial: Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. A Christian Vigil Service will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, and visiting hours with the family will follow until 8 p.m. Memorials: American Heart Association.
James B. Osweiler was born Dec. 1, 1915, in Sigourney, to Edward and Frances Vogel Osweiler. On Nov. 8, 1941, he married Ruth M. House in Edina, Mo. She died Jan. 18, 1989. He farmed in Keokuk and Mahaska counties for many years before retiring and moving into Oskaloosa in 1983. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Oskaloosa, Farm Bureau, and the Moose and Eagles lodges.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Gary and Sue Osweiler of Boone, Stanley and Barbara Osweiler of Indianapolis, Ind., and James F. and Janet Osweiler of Oskaloosa; a daughter and son-in-law: Jean and Carl Bessman of Ames; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law: Leo and Elsie Osweiler of Las Vegas, Nev.; and five sisters and two brothers-in-law: Gen Striegel and Trudy Lester, both of Des Moines, Betty Yoakam of Sigourney, Jody and Don Bair of Pella, and Rita and Gerry Navarre of Los Angeles, Calif. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Harold, Hubert and Raymond Osweiler.
