Elder J. C. Kelso died yesterday morning, June 16, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. W. D. Orswell, and gathered around his bed were his two sons, W. C. and H. C., Mrs. Orswell, grandson, Roy Wills and the wife; who watched him pass peacefully to the home on high.

J. C. Kelso was born August 18, 1822, in South Carolina, removed in early childhood to Indiana and a few years later to Illinois. He was married in 1845 to Augusta Graham, who still survives him.

In 1854 he removed to Winterset, Iowa, where he spent his active business days. He came to Mitchell, South Dakota, in 1881, and has been closely identified with the growing interests of the city since its infancy. Those who knew him in his commercial activity proclaim his integrity.

No man will rise up to accuse him of fraud, all indeed, proclaim him and honest man, “the noblest work of God.” In early manhood he united with the Presbyterian church. He afterwards identified himself with the Methodist Episcopal church and later with the Advents, rendering good service as a preacher of their doctrine and refusing remuneration for his services.––Mitchell Daily Republican.
