Looking for any information on the following individuals listed on pg 560 of the 1860 US Federal Census for IA: Lucas County, English Twp, Chariton: Quilie Wilie (later spelled Wiley), 56, as head of household, born in Kentucky?; wife Lucy, 34, born in Kentucky?; Aron and Enos, both born in Indiana; John W & Mary, born in Iowa; also enumerated with family are Lucy A Clayton, 15, Amanda C Clayton, 13, and Thomas I Clayton - all born in Kentucky.
I suspect the "Quilie" is short for Aquila or Aquilla. Lucy may be the Lucy Clarksten who married an Aquila Wiley in Jennings, Indiana in 1849. The family name has been found spelled differently on various documents throughout the years: Wiley, Willey, Wilie, Wylie.
If a very old letter from a now deceased great-aunt is correct, Quilie may have died in Iowa. Afterwards, Lucy took the kids (including Susanna and Emerine "Emma" Wiley who were born after 1860) and were found in Barton county, MO on the 1870 census. The Wiley children then dispersed to MO, KS, OK, CO, and CA.
This family has always been a roadblock for me...I didn't even know the father's name until I found them on the 1860 census today. Hope someone recognizes them.
