Halferty, John William (1893 - 1947)

John William Halferty, son of Jasper and Elizabeth Halferty, was born September 4, 1893 on a farm north of Chariton and departed this life at the University hospital in Iowa City October 21, 1947, at the age of 54 years, one month and 17 days.

On March 22, 1914, he was married to Frances Iona May Wilson, of Chariton, who preceded him in death March 26, 1920. To this union three children were born, Edward William, Carl Herman and Mrs. Francis Louise Lacy, who survive; he is also survived by two step sons, Harold Kendall, of Merced, Calif., and Ivyl Kendall of Ottumwa, sons of Mary Leona Kendall, who he married April 21, 1924 and who passed away May 6, 1941.

Other survivors include grandchildren, two sisters, Margaret Vickroy, of Indianola and Mrs. Elizabeth Patterson, Des Moines; seven brothers, David, Glen, Dennis and Joseph all of Chariton; Matthew, of Humeston; Raymond of Davenport and Robert of Des Moines, besides a host of friends and relatives.

Final rites were held Friday, October 24 at 2 o'clock at the Beardsley funeral home. Burial was made in Derby cemetery.
