Davenport Democrat.-- Nov. 23, 1867- Fatal Accident- a boy of sixteen years of age, son of Mr. Shaffer, a quiet German farmer of Port Louisa township, lost his life a few days since, at the hands of an elder brother in a peculiar manner. The facts as we learn them are these: The elder brother had been sick for some time, and had been taking pills, a thing he disliked much to do. Last Friday evening was the time for taking another pill and the younger brother was teasing him about it. In a pettish moment he picked up a piece of a corn-cutter handle and tossed, rather than threw it at his brother, striking him in the left temple and felling him to the earth in an unconscious state, from which he never recovered. He died last Saturday morning, and his funeral wad preached at Harrison meeting house the following day. Dr. Latta was called to the case, The probability is that one of the small arteries of that region was ruptured. Mr Shaffer's family is plunged into great grief by this singular disaster.
