James B. Sullivan was born Nov. 2nd, 1842, in Louisa county, Iowa, and died Dec. 24, 1905, at the Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown. He enlisted at Wapello in Co, K., 8th Iowa Infantry on Sept. 11th, 1861 and was discharged at Selma, Ala., April 20th, 1866. He was a widower, his wife having died Jan. 16, 1880, at Davenport. He was a prominent member of the local G.A. R. post, and has been a mason for over 30 years. He converted as a boy and lived a consistent christian life for over 40 yeas, being identified with the Methodist church.

Mr. Sullivan entered the Soldier's Home the 19th of last July. The cause of death was malignant disease of the liver. He took suddenly worse last Friday and passed away Sunday morning at 12:30. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Nancy L. J. Brown, of Des Moines; a half sister, Mrs. Sarah R. Yeager, of Fruitland, and a step brother, W. H. McGill, of Grandview, all of whom were present at the funeral. Mr. Sullivan was a man well known and universally respected. He was a very quiet, modest man, soft spoken, yet with decided convictions and well established principles; a patriot, citizen and a christian.

The remains were brought to Wapello yesterday morning and the funeral was held from the Presbyterian church at 10 o'clock this morning, conducted by Rev. W. H. Cooper, with the Masonic rites. Interment in the Wapello cemetery.
