Hugh William Christie, oldest son of Henry and Sarah A. (Toner) Christie, was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, February 16th, 1842, and departed this life in Louisa county, Iowa, Dec. 15th, 1905, aged 63 years, 8 months and 29 days. Mr. Christie belonged to one of the large families of eastern Ohio, of which seven brothers and sisters still remain on Times' shore: Mrs. G. M. Ong, of Wapello; Mrs. Catherine Davis, of Des Moines, Iowa; Geo. N., Henry R., and Mrs. Emma Mincher, of Wapello Mrs. Sarah Myers and Edward B., of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Selphina Concerse in February, 1863. To this union were born 5 children, all living: Charles, of Des Moines; Mrs. Nellie Craig, of Martinsburg, Ia.; Mrs. Ida Roberts, of Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Louisa Holt, of Enid, Okla. and Mrs. Carry Bryant, of Mt. Pleasant, Ia. The wife and mother passed away June 3rd, 1871 and on Friday, Dec. 15, the summons came to our brother, who answered the call. The funeral services were held at the home of H. R. Christie, conducted by Rev. W. H. Cooper. The burial was in Wapello cemetery.
