I am looking for any and all information pertaining to my maternal grandfather, William (Bill) Aman who lived in or around Algona, Iowa (Kossuth County) prior to his death around 1930.
He and my grandmother, Jessie Aman, had four daughters: Thelma, Eileen, June, and the youngest, my mother, Joyce, DOB:12/29/28. All four of these girls lived and died without ever knowing the information below.I recently took a DNA Ancestery test which revealed that my grandfather, William Aman, must have been full blooded Native American, as I am 24%. All my other ancestors are clearly European. My grandmother made a concerted effort to sweep anything having to do with my grandfather under the rug, including his ethnic heritage. My mother has no recollection of him other having seen a couple photographs of him from which she concluded "he looked like an Indian".
Apparently he more than looked like an Indian.
Any assistence that anyone can offer regarding my grandfather's past, particularly his Native American heritage, would be greatly appreciated.
