Fails To Survive Deadly Gas Burns
Clinton Sunding Dies After 4 Days of Torture from Accident
Was Only 21 Years Old; Leaves Bride of 3 Months
Burned Week Ago Sunday Night When Gas from leaking Carburetor of His Car Becomes Ignited.
Clinton Sunding, the young man who, as reported in last week’s Advance was badly burned when gasoline dripping from a leaky carburetor which he was repairing took fire, did not survive his injuries. The accident took place a week ago Sunday night, and he lingered till Friday noon, when he died.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Frank H. Webster at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon. Burial was made in Riverview.
Mr. Sunding was only 21 years old, having been born January 14, 1900. His mother is a Mrs. Palmer of Alexandria, S.D. His father died when he was five years old he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Chas Sunding, of Highmore, S.D., with whom he lived till he was 19 years old.
On leaving home Clinton came to Algona, and worked at various jobs. At the time of his death he was in the employ of J.N. Wheeler, and Irvington farmer.
On March 30 last Clinton and Miss Vera Ditsworth, daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. A. Ditsworth, were married. Besides the widow, he left three sisters, Grace Marie, and Rosie, and two brothers, John and LuVerne. There is also an adopted sister, Mrs. Emily Kelser, of Holbrook, S.D., and her brother, Harry Sunding, farming southwest of Algona.
Clinton had applied for membership in the Yeomen just before he was burned, and was to have had his physical examination a week ago Monday. Though he had not become a member, the local Yeomen took part in his burial rites.
