1990-2012

ALGONA - Kathrine Leona-Jo Kofoot of Algona died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, from injuries sustained in a head on collision when another car crossed the center line on Highway 169 not far from her home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Mason City, with the Rev. Wendy Abrahamson officiating. Burial will be in Ingham Cemetery of Hansell.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Lentz Funeral home in Algona and 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
Katie was born 14 minutes before her twin sister on Thursday, Nov. 15, 1990, to Joette (Jet) Kirschbaum and Allen Kofoot at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Before moving to Algona in 2005, Katie was a resident of Hampton. She was a proud graduate of Algona High School in 2009 and North Iowa Area Community College in 2011.

At the time of her death, she was a Horticulture-Greenhouse major at Iowa State University.
Katie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was a leader in her family, schools and church. She was a member of the Episcopal Church, FFA, Algona Scarlett Regiment Marching Band, Algona High School band woodwind ensemble, NIACC CEO Club and the ISU Horticulture Club. In high school she participated in Quiz Bowl, Mock Trial and Drama. She travelled to the Episcopal Happening Leadership Conference in North Carolina, two mission trips to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, National FFA Conference in Indianapolis, FFA Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., CEO Club Conference in Chicago, and other locations for high school trips.
Katie was excited about an upcoming spring break trip to St. John, Virgin Islands, where she would teach horticulture to children.

In high school, she was awarded band and academic letters, and the woodwind ensemble won a division one rating at state. She especially enjoyed participating in FFA. As an FFA member she was on the parliamentary procedure team, attained Greenhand and Chapter Farmer degrees and ushered at the State Fair for two years.
At NIACC, she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

Katie achieved great things even though she lived with a serious learning disability. She worked hard and never gave up. Family activities and trips were priorities for her with a family ski trip planned for the Sunday after she was killed. Katie's close friends were also especially dear to her.

Setting up her first apartment with her roommates Krista Sanchez, Katie Dillon and Barb Veihmeyer was the highlight of her move to Iowa State. She was a friend to everyone and rarely failed to display her signature grin.

If you're coming to Katie's funeral please wear ISU, Algona High School, FFA or NIACC colors if you can.
