Edwin Jacob Kollasch, the son of Henry and Louise (Krumm) Kollasch was born on April 28, 1925 in Swea Township and grew up on a farm South West of Swea City, Iowa. He attended school in Swea City and graduated in 1944. He lived his entire life in Swea City and in his younger years played baseball for the local team as a pitcher and was also known for his unique ways of shooting a basketball.
On November 24, 1950 he married Marion Linde in the Sacred Heart Parish house and they made their home on an acreage on the north edge of Swea City. He worked for Quaker Oats Elevator, Kossuth County road crew, and Linde Implement, all in Swea City, until starting to farm. In 1964 he and his family moved to the farm east of Swea City. During his farming career Ed broke horses, milked cows, and raised cattle and hogs. He enjoyed going to many of the local sale barns and could always be counted on, by the auctioneers, to buy livestock that no one else wanted. He retired from farming in 1999 but they continued to live on the farm where he could be found working on something in his shop or basement.
On September 1, 2018 he and Marion moved to The Manor in Swea City. He passed away on July 24, 2020 at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa at the age of 95 years. Eddy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Armstrong.
Ed is survived by his wife Marion (of almost 70 years); sons, David (Lupe) of Swea City, Bill (Bobi) of Armstrong, and Tim (Jenny) of Rochester, MN; daughter, Linda (Troy) Adams of Swea City; 12 grandchildren: Shawn (Genevieve) Kollasch, Landon (Renae) Kollasch, Korey (Aurelia) Kollasch, Season (Brent) Schultze, Nicholas (Katy) Kollasch, Mandi (Scott) Goche, Christa (Drew) Bouwman, Carrie (Chris) Stevens, Kimberly (Adam) Doughan, Kirsten Adams, Matthew Adams, and Jacob Adams; 28 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Joyce Kollasch; and many nieces and nephews.
