After some more searching I have been able to track down Asa Collyer Bowen born 1874, son of Asa Clark Bowen and Lucy Ellen (Ella) Shoemaker.

I will be getting further information on him this week but here is what I have so far:

He married March 14, 1900 in Sand Springs to Myrtle J. King. He moved to Montana in 1907, South Dakota, Washington state, and back to Montana a couple of times and settled there by 1928. Asa was big in the railroad business. Myrtle died 1921 at Miles City, Montana (town portrayed in HBO's "Deadwood" series)and buried there. They had 2 children - Theodore born 1902 who moved to Canada and Edward born c.1913.

He remarried in 1923 at Miles City to Mrs. Emma Copeland (maiden name Westburg) and moved to Lewistown, Fergus Co., Montana and both still living in 1930. Trying to get deaths for both now.

I know, this isn't a direct Jones County connection per se though they spilled over to Bowens Prairie from his family and other fellow Bowen researchers here. There is a very detailed biography and a nice c.1930 photo of Asa in the following book:

"Montana the Land and the People" by Robert George Raymer - copyright 1930; Vol 3, pages 826-828.

BTW... the middle name spelling of Collyer is correct as the photograph of Asa has a very clear autograph by him on it. Also, his Shoemaker's mothers maiden name is listed as Philkins. This wasn't known before.

Eric
