John N. Peiffer, Jr., 68, of Route 1, Onslow, died Saturday morning of an apparent heart attack while driving his car north on highway 38 near the Hanken Bros. farm east of Monticello.
The Monticello emergency unit was called and he was pronounced dead on arrival at John McDonald hospital.
Tim Kuhns, 17, of Route 1, Scotch Grove, had been driving behind Peiffer's car for about four miles and he reported that the car had been weaving about on the road and had almost gone into the ditch once before.
Peiffer's death will not be considered as a traffic fatality, according to authorities.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's church at Temple Hill, with interment in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Francis Koob Peiffer; five sons, Joseph of Cascade, Herbert of Oxford Jct., Donald of Milwaukee, Wis., Nicholas of Maquoketa, and Merlin at home; one daughter, Mary Irene at home; 17 grandchildren; and five brothers, Michael, Henry, Raymond, Francis and Melvin, all of Cascade.
