Clyde B. Smith, 89, a life-time resident of Anamosa died at the Senior Home in Monticello early Friday, May 28, 1971 after an illness of several months.
He was born at Anamosa March 17, 1882, the son of Benjamin and Ellen Wyatt Smith and was educated in the Anamosa school. He worked as a teamster for several years when road work was done with horses and mules. He also worked in a factory in Cedar Rapids for several years.
In June, 1934, he was married to Elva Sams Ellison.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Frances) Siemer, Nashville, Tenn.; and Mrs. Pete (Carol) Terrell of Anamosa. Also surviving are six step children, Mrs. WIlliam (Theola) Pazour, Donald Ellison, Mrs. Marvin (Iola) Taylor, Chester Ellison, Russell Ellison and Mrs. Chalmer (Isabelle) Loftus, Garland, Texas; 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a half brother and four half sisters.
Funeral services were held at the Goettsch funeral home Tuesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James P. Imlay officiating. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
