Sandra,
There is a very brief mention in "The Fairfield Ledger" of Thursday, February 8, 1866, of Mrs. FROHAWK...."The Fairfield Ledger"
Thursday, February 8, 1866
Page 2, Column 6List of Claims Presented to and Allowed by the Board of Supervisors of Jefferson County, Iowa, at their January Session A.D. 1866.
(At the bottom of the column under the "PAUPER EXPENSES." heading)
C E Noble, coffin for Mrs. FROHAWK 8 00
----------
It sounds as though she died without relatives to provide for her burial, and she was given a coffin on behalf of C. E. Noble, who requested reimbursement from the county for doing so. I looked through the rest of the paper for that day and did not find an obituary for her. I checked the next couple papers (at this point in time, the "Ledger" was a weekly paper) and did not find an obituary either. There is no record of her burial in the county. Also, the county did not require vital records such as death certificates until July, 1880.
